The Engineering Forum of Nigerians, EFN (UK) is holding its 6th annual spring event on Friday the 26th June 2009. The event will take place in London (Venue to be confirm).
This year’s theme is focused on Investment Opportunities through PPP in Developing Economies. Most developing countries have abundant natural resources and according to World Bank estimate the continent of Africa sustained growth development has exceeded 5% over the last decade. These sustained developments have increased the burden on the existing insufficient infrastructure and the governments are unable to maintain the pace of improvement in these infrastructures due to insufficient funds.
UK is estimated to have spent over £33bn on the development of new public infrastructure through the private sector in the last 10 years. PPP to finance infrastructure development have become inevitable in most parts of the globe because of the simple reality that government alone can not create sufficient resources to meet the need. It is therefore a reality that PPP offers the only realistic route to infrastructure development in developing countries such as Nigeria.
EFN will utilize the opportunity provided by this spring event to open other partnership options and create a win-win scenario for both government and private sector investors in the delivery of social amenities to the public. This event will provide opportunities for investors to work in collaboration with the Federal and State Governments of developing countries to set up a framework to improve these infrastructure projects. The event will offer unrivalled opportunities to get updated on PPP projects and public policy, meet government and private sector PPP experts from Africa, UK and international.
This conference aims to:
■ Review available opportunities within key economic sectors of the country;
■ Discuss the increasing role played by infrastructure funds and multilateral institutions;
■ Review the challenges facing developing economies in infrastructure development and `
the solutions being created by the public and private sectors.
