Energy is fundamental to the all our lives.Without energy sources, we do not have light, heat, or the means to power our buildings, machines or transport. Since the discovery of coal, oil and natural gas we have mostly relied on these enegry sources, but hydrocarbon fuels will not last forever and we need to find other sources of energy now. it is predicted that 60% of all our energy will come from renewable energy by the year 2070.
Rural areas in Nigeria lack the modem energy sources needed for improvements in health, education, transportation and commercial development. Outside of major cities and towns, there has been very little electrification and what supply there is, is often unreliable even in major cities and towns.
Renewable energy is a good solution to this problem, especially in remote locations and in situations where enough is not being nationally generated Renewable energy is becoming an important provider of power around the world.
In the ever growing globalisation market, key priorities that are shaping Africa's development policy is the need to scale up rural access to modem infrastructure and the promotion of non-farm income generation by enterprise. To achieve this it is recognised that there is a dire need to increase energy access with specific emphasis on energy required for social services, promotion of income generation and productive uses.
The Engineering Forum of Nigerian ( EFN) believe strongly that whilst the provision of energy to Nigerians is important, it should not be viewed as the ultimate goal. The ultmate goal should be the development services it enables.
it is with this view in mind that the theme of the EFN,s 5th Spring conference "Delivering Sustainable Power Solutions in Nigeria" has been set. The event will take place at the arsenal Football Club on the 14th June 2008 (click the link below for further information and download the PDF flyer ).
