I've heard varying answers to the question I'm about to pose, but since Ars is the greatest collection of human knowledge in mankind's history, I'll take the answer I get here as the truth. That being said, here is the question: Will a spring lose more of its 'springiness' by being compressed for a long period of time, or by being compressed and relieved multiple times? For example, will the springs in a car's suspension lose their qualities faster by having the car bounce on them, or by having a car that's too heavy on them, keeping them compressed? For example (again), will a spring in a weapons magazine lose its qualities more quickly by constantly being depressed by the rounds, or by being flexed constantly (ie, shooting the rounds and reloading the mag)?
Any help will be apprecited.
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
